"One, No One and One Hundred Thousand” (Uno, Nessuno e Centomila) is a novel by Luigi Pirandello, first published in 1926. Short Explanation (in English) The novel tells the story of Vitangelo Moscarda, a man whose life changes after his wife casually tells him that his nose tilts slightly to one side.

This small remark triggers a deep existential crisis. Moscarda realizes that the image he has of himself is completely different from the image others have of him.

From that moment, he becomes obsessed with the idea that he is not “one” person, but “one hundred thousand” different versions, one for each person who knows him.

Eventually, he concludes that he is “no one,” because there is no single, stable identity that defines him. Through irony and psychological insight, Pirandello explores themes such as: The relativity of identity The conflict between self-perception and social perception The fragmentation of the self The masks people wear in society In the end, Moscarda rejects social roles and expectations, choosing a life detached from conventional identity..
